[ANNOUNCEMENT Oct 7, 2024] I just confirmed - the xRivet also fits the Original Prusa MINI Enclosure.

Looking for MORE upgrades for your enclosure?  Consider doing this one too!

**********

The Prusa Enclosure comes with lots of mounting hole locations to make it easy to attach accessories and do upgrades.  However if these holes are not plugged up, they leak a lot of heat. (Don't believe me? Read on.)

Unfortunately, Prusa does not provide enough rivets to plug up ALL the holes.

Not to worry, I designed these xRivets for you to plug up as many holes as you would like.

There are 2 lengths:

  1. xRivet1: Best fits the sheet metal enclosure only
  2. xRivet2: Best fits the sheet metal + plexi glass (a little longer)

Features:

  1. Fast easy print, no supports.
  2. Clicks into place with a satisfying “snap” sound.
  3. Stays in place firmly.

But just how much heat could a leaky enclosure leak, you ask??

Example: 2 hours into printing ABS (Extruder 255°C, Bed 100°C)

Before: Many holes left unplugged: 35°C max. (approximately 70 open holes)

After: All holes plugged: 37.8°C max. (slit opening still open)

Yes, plugging these holes produced almost 3°C better heat retention!

And this test was done without the tie wrap slits (mounting locations) plugged up.

Yes, but how firmly do they hold?

They sit firmly in place and “snap” in with a satisfying snap sound.  Each one has a “barb” that keeps the rivet from backing out. I highly recommend printing in ABS for flexibility and temperature resistance.  Just be sure to use the right length xRivet for the hole you want to cover.

For best results for heat retention, I suggest you download and print my other designs as well:

Note: Please make sure your printer is well calibrated.  Because it is a small part, a well-tuned printer is needed to print properly at 100% scale (in my case, on a MK4).  Some (very) slight scaling up or down may be needed for your own printer.

Notes:

  1. If you want to remove these rivets, push them out from inside the enclosure.
  2. Do not use PLA for this model, as it is not flexible enough to snap in without breaking it.
  3. Use PETG/ABS/ASA for their flexibility.  Tested using Polymaker Polylite ABS.

If you add this to your collection and/or download the model, don't forget to click the LIKE button and give it some STARS!

Remember, you can earn some Prusameters if you post a pic of your make!  Plus, it would just make my day. ;-D

Happy Printing!
