I tried to use this model by Jake 5015 Clear Fan Rear Housing and it did work but I wanted more light to show through and I couldn't find any clear 5015 fans online.

So I decided to design and print my own.

STEP files included
3MF file included
STL file included

How to:

  • Print in clear resin or any translucent color of your liking.
  • Take a CLELO 5015 fan or any 5015 fan should work and cut away everything down to the PCB (carefully).  Note that the back housing seems to act as a “cap” to the axle, exposing a clip and some lubricant.  Be careful and work slowly as to not put too much pressure on the motor and cause damage. Remove the Plastic retaining clip on the axel to remove the motor from the axel. Save the retaining clip and the spring that is under the motor. Cut away the radial fan from the magnet (carefully) just 2 cuts 180° should be enough to split it in half and extract the ring magnet.
  • Remove the axel from radial fan, I just cut away the plastic till it came out
  • Glue the axel & the ring magnet into the clear radial fan.
  • Insert the spring onto the axel, then motor onto the axel, and attach the plastic retaining clip that you saved.
  • Glue the PCB into the back housing. I used super glue with accelerator spray to set it quickly.

You can also try the spiral design by adding a black (or any color) resin with a syringe and needle to fill the void and cure with UV light. The color was not that dark so I first colored it with a with a Sharpie marker then clean up the surface with IPA prior to putting on the black resin.

It is really hard to get a balanced fan and you will most likely have some vibrations or more noise with the mod.

Good Luck and anyone that tries this and if you know where to get clear 5015 fans please let me know.
