The fan is normally held in place by two small screws through the mounting points on the corners of the fan housing, but if those mounting points break the fan will come loose and no longer direct airflow across the splice core properly.  Symptoms are insufficient cooling of the splice core while splices are cooling which softens the filament sitting in the splice core while the splice itself is cooling (about 30-40mm after the splice).  When the splice is done cooling and filament advances, the softened point will either deform or completely jam when passing through the outgoing drive gear.

Recommend printing in PETG or better for heat resistance.  The broken fan should slide into this bracket with a snug fit.  I used double-sided heatsink tape to secure the bracket to the open space on the circuit board of the Palette. Once the fan was in the correct position, I added a couple drops of superglue on either side where the fan contacts the printed bracket, just for good measure.  I don't recommend permanently affixing the bracket to the Palette circuit board in any way.  I believe this part should hold up fairly well, but was designed as a temporary fix since the replacement fan is readily available via Mosaic's customer service dept.

Note: this is a common fan size (4010 blower fan) and replacements are cheap, but the 0.3A rating of the stock fan makes it substantially more powerful than most of the 0.1A rated fans of this size that are commonly available.  A lower powered fan may be acceptable, but will likely have an effect on splice tuning.

Shameless plug: If you find any of my designs useful and wish to show your appreciation, the best way to do so is to support a small family-owned business and buy your next roll of filament from https://go.photonlight.com/filament.  :-)
