Okay!

So I have this very handy cane torch, they have become prohibitively expensive… pretty sure 3~4 years ago i got mine for max 36$ (current retail: 56$) it's obscene. especially when you look at it. it's just a 16mm aluminum tube with a J-bend , a couple brass pieces pinched onto it, a foam handle, and a piezo electic igniter

Anyway.

it has a few major flaws. primarily that it is made out of aluminum and brass and is used to burn things…

so if you use it for a bit, the end melts off… ( i do realize i am using it for more than it is intended - i like to use it to start campfires. just turn on fuel, click a button, poke in fire pit. tada! fire) I sometimes leave it in a while to get some wet stuff burning or whatnot. well the end likes to melt off.

this is easily fixed. i just put a length of stainless steel pipe (with an ID of 16mm) over the aluminum pipe. fixed forever, stainless doesn't absorb the heat like aluminum, therefore it doesn't travel from the end that is in the fire up the pipe melting the damn thing. sweet!

other fatal flaw. the igniter is cheap and very near hot for extended amounts of time… you'll never guess what happened after a few fires… oh yes, just as predicted… the plastic… melted.

no worries, I just bought that little igniter I linked above.
worked okay… I mean it fits into the torch. but is less than perfect, end up having to press it several times to get it to spark (IDK just how it was, probably needed better contact…) either way, too much aggressive clicking caused premature death.

Now Imma try a new approach. (not very happy about it… I really liked the compact igniter/torch combo. tbh) and summarily I'll share it with you, in case you find yourself in a similar situation.

I've designed this “EZ Reach BIC lighter holder - v2” this to keep an EZ Reach BIC lighter close at hand.

it utilizes four 3x8mm magnets to allow for lighter removal and storage.
and of course super glue.

I've added slots for zip ties.
although at this point IDK if you'll need them, the tolerances, were pretty good(for me at least); and it has a nice tight snap fit. Time may change this…
