Purpose

I designed these ~22mm bases to stabilize Robbert Bakker's fabulous Chessmen in Spiral Vase Mode.

Supplies

  • 6 grams of white filament
  • 6 grams of black filament
  • 36 pennies

Process

  1. Print sequentially in spiral vase mode, with 0.6mm of solid bottom layers and external perimeter extrusion width of 1.2mm.
  2. Glue three pennies inside the queen's base (the tallest one). Glue the queen to the center of the top penny.
  3. Glue three pennies inside the king's base (the second-tallest one). Glue the king to the center of the top penny.
  4. Glue two pennies inside each of the remaining bases. Glue one courtier (bishop, knight, or rook) to the center of each top penny.
  5. Repeat for the opposing army of chessmen.
