A special socket, with a ¼ inch drive, for removing and reinstalling the cap for the cold water inlet screen on a Rheem tankless water heater.

The cold water inlet screen on a tankless water heater should be removed and cleaned as part of the annual maintenance/descaling flush procedure. This tool makes removing and reinstalling the cap for the inlet screen a simple process and protects the cap from being marred or damaged by the use of pliers or other similar tools not specifically designed for this purpose.

Print recommendations:

  • 0.4mm or 0.6mm nozzle.
  • 0.15mm layer height.
  • 4 perimeters.
  • 25% infill.
  • 1.0mm – 1.2mm top and bottom thickness.
  • Print with the mouth of the socket facing up; no supports necessary.

Material choice is up to you. I originally planned to print the final version in PC-CF, but the PETG prototypes worked well enough that I decided PC-CF was unnecessary. PLA would probably work just fine as well, since you shouldn't have a need to apply a large amount of torque to the inlet screen cap.
