Blinking Christmas Tree with a different base

The Blinking Christmas tree was one of the first prints on my new Mendel90 machine, assembled from a kit of parts from Nophead - and it turned out VERY well indeed. However, I thought that I would make a change to the base so that it could accommodate a power supply connector. I also decided against building up the multivibrator circuits and took the easy route by purchasing flashing LEDs.

Instructions

The hole in the lower part of the base is 8mm diameter and takes a standard DC power connector. I used an old mobile phone mains adapter rated at 700mA and 5V - take care to get the positive and negative the right way round! The LEDs were wired as eight parallel pairs of two in series which seemed about right.

Once you have fixed the DC power connector in place, use self tapping screws, (3mm / No. 4s), to secure the top part of the base and bring out the two wires from the power connector through the hole at the top.

Once the LEDs are in place, connect them to the power leads and then screw the base to the tree. (You will need to have drilled some small holes into the base of the tree first to match the ones in the base - I tried tapping these with an M3 thread so that I could use allen key type cap head screws but ended up using self tappers - a wee bit difficult to get your screwdriver in but it all went together in the end.

I used Faberdashery Greenery Green for the tree and Woodland Brown for the base.
