Summary

I have a Celestron Evolution mount for my 8" SCT and the original rubber tipped feet were getting damaged after a few uses. I wanted to replace the feet with something a bit more robust. Using heavy duty tripod feet was an obvious choice and these adapters should work well with any tripod foot with a standard 3/8-16 screw post.

Should fit any telescope tripod with hollow 1" diameter metal legs.

Print Settings

ABS, PETG or ASA would be best.

0.2mm layer height, 5 shells and 35% infill

Additional Parts

  • 3x Tripod feet tips with standard 3/8" threaded post. I used Leofoto Universal 45mm feet, but pretty much any tripod tip with a 3/8-16 post will do.
  • 3x washers. You may need to use 5/16" washers which should just fit over the post in order to fit inside and have a small gap to allow the tripod leg tubes to fully insert.
  • 3x nuts for the threaded posts

Assembly

  1. Insert threaded stud of the tip into the hole and place the washer inside of the adapter.
  2. Screw the nut onto the post without over tightening as that may damage the adpater. I recommend just using your hand without a wrench using a socket. If you're afraid of it coming loose, some blue Loctite on the threads will work.
  3. Make sure the sides of the nut and not the corners are facing the two holes in the side of the adapter. Rotate the post accordingly. Important: failure to properly align the nut to the holes may damage the adapter!
  4. Insert the adapter onto the end of the tripod leg and line up the holes of the adapter with the holes in the leg.
  5. Carefully use the original Celestron screws and screw in one of the screws about 70% of the way in.
  6. Ensure other hole is still aligned properly. If not, adjust as necessary.
  7. Screw in the 2nd screw fully. Be careful to not over tighten as that will damage the adapter.
  8. Finish screwing in the 1st screw.
