Filter insert for Intex Pool Skimmer

We have a small intex frame pool for the kids. The skimmer is really good for cleaning the water surface. It collects a lot of dirt, insects, leaves, hair and other stuff that is floating around. The inner basket of the skimmer has quite huge holes. Smaller particles will fit through those holes. All of those smaller particles will end up in the filter material/cartridge. Therfore the filter needs to be cleaned very often. All this biological material in the filter can be hygienically challenging 

I was looking for a way to remove finer particles/insects already in the skimmer, without restricting the water flow too much. I was looking for a device that could be removed and cleaned easily.

At the same time I wanted to have the chlorine pill in the skimmer.

I didn't find one, so I designed it.

I printed it from TPU hard which can withstand the chemicals (especially chlorine) with ease.

The stainless steel mesh has a specification of 80 Mesh! I tested also the finer 120 Mesh, but this creates too much resistance to the water flow.

I used white TPU hard from Extrudr. Because of the chlorine, the colour changed a bit. But the material is absolutely fine under these conditions.

In the evening, I remove this filter basket from the skimmer and rinse it with fresh water. All the insects, hair and “other stuff” does never reach the big pool filter.
