I have a RaspberryPi running 24/7 that monitors the solar charging and batteries at our local model flying club. In the middle of the summer, temperatures become very hot in the cabinet and we had unexplainable reboots when the temperatures peaked.
The housing we had used is the excellent design from Malolo, which we had enhanced with a DIN rail clip. Unfortunately I had chosen the top variant with no ventilation holes from all of the styles that Malolo provides. After leaving the top of the housing open, the problem was gone. To be on the very safe side for the future, I decided to create this remix with maximum ventilation.
I created the hexagon mesh with the respective FreeCAD macro. Then I converted the .stl original into a solid in FreeCAD made the rectangular cutout, using the “part” workbench. Finally I adjusted the hexagon mesh for symmetry on the housing and fused everything together in the “part” workbench.
Overall this provides a maximum of ventilation with still protecting the RaspberryPi board from being touched.
Please download your favorite bottom housing from Malolo, he provided a whole variety of them. https://www.printables.com/model/4038-malolos-screw-less-snap-fit-raspberry-pi-3-model-b
Your satisfaction is my reward. Please like this design if you like it.
Happy printing!
