Introduction

PrintABlok is a system designed by 3D Printing Professor. It consists of stackable, buildable blocks in a variety of shapes; all of standardised sizes, and is very (and I do mean very) open to extension. The so called BaseBlok is 16x16x16mm, and that's the default unit; 16mm.

Why this remix?

I was building happily and found that I wanted wider, longer, and stronger. I also opted to go for very sleek finishing panels.

What's available?

  • Standard size bloks: from 1x3 all the way to 4x16 (based on 16x16x16mm). The original contains the smaller sizes, e.g. 1x2.
  • ShortBloks (half-height of a base blok): from 1x5 to 1x16. Again, the original has the smaller sizes if you need those.
  • Diagonals: 100%, 200% and 300% incline. (Definition: 100% = 45 degrees, 200% is steeper, 300% is even steeper (o'reilly :). This will add triangle-shaped rigidity. I optimized these for material, they are slimmer than 16mm, but thick enough to not be the bottleneck in terms of strength. When in doubt, higher infill or perimeters should be fine.
  • Sleek panels: 1x2 all the way to 9x10. These can only be built on from one side and close the bloks off completely from the other.

You are gonna need the connector of the original, see its files section: https://www.printables.com/model/47788-printablok-base-bloks/files

Printing instructions

  • The beauty is that print-a-bloks by design can print in any (orthogonal) orientation. Even upside down! (although sleek panels are best kept like they are). The original maker really thought them through!
  • Be mindful of elephants foot compensation as the bottom holes can be a little tight if not set correctly.
  • Any layer height should do, but the higher the more imprecise the fits can become. When in doubt go for 0.15mm or 0.20mm.
