I designed this (TPU) canopy for Ivan Efimov's Open Racer open source racer-quad frame (https://github.com/OpenRacer/OpenRacer). I had these design goals in mind:

  • strong with the least material and weight for TPU (23g)
  • easy to print without the need of support (1hr 23min at 120mm/s)
  • easy to access USB port on the FC
  • easy to add optional skewer stick (or carbon fiber rod) for turtle fin with fin base flexible enough to absorb crash impact yet springy enough to lift the motors up in the air when upside-down (if the rod doesn't get stuck in the soil LOL)
  • fits Foxeer lollipop in its best orientation for signals and best location shielded from crashes

The canopy was designed to be printed with orientation such that the camera opening sits on the bed. This way I don't need ANY support and greatly save time and material (1hr 23min at 120mm/s). If you prefer perfect print quality by adding support you may try printing with mounting bolt holes sitting on the bed.

Print settings I use:

  • brim (both inside and out)
  • 0.2mm layer height
  • 0.4mm layer width
  • 3-4 walls (< 1g difference)
  • minimum 12% “line” infill [0, 90] for unique see-through pattern (optional up to 100% infill)
  • 120mm/s print speed with 2000 accels on my Creality S1 bed-slinger
  • Cura says 2hr 8min but in reality took me 1hr 23min

Update 2023-07-18: Added cam lockers for Runcam Racer3 Nano 12mm lens at 45 degrees and 12mm lens at 55 degrees. Print with the lens opening on the bed. Also added 12mm lens 40 degrees.

Update 2023-07-18: Added v1.1 cam lockers with chamfered lens opening to ease re-seating of poked-through lens from hard crash.
