This started as a repair job when a diffusor of a mini led fairy lights was missing.

Now you can build your own mini fairy lights with this light blub like diffusor!

Features

  • fits standard leaded LEDs, 5 mm or smaller (inner rim holds 5 mm LEDs in place)
  • assembly with plug (press fit) or hot glue
  • glows nicely like a mini light bulb (0.8 mm wall thickness)
  • prints fast

Printing

  • General Setting: 0,2 mm layer height, ‘speed’ setting for prusa slicer
  • Perimeter: 
    • 2 perimeter for diffusor
    • 2 or 3 for plug
  • white or transparent PLA or PETG
  • I printed with white eSun PLA an compensated for shrinking with 103.6% scaling.

Assembly

  • solder LEDs on wires
  • cover LED with the diffusor
  • press plug into buttom of diffusor or hot glue LED in place

Electrical / driving the LEDs

It's best to use a LED driver board or plug to drive a string of LEDs (connected in series). The original fairy lights had 50 LEDs in 2 serial strings, so according to the label on the plug roughly 60 mA per string.
