I modified the original Hadley focuser parts in three ways:

  1. I made cleaner thread starts
  2. I added grooves to hide the z-seam in
  3. I removed the chamfer around the base of the inner focuser

The cleaner thread starts allow for two things…

  • The very thin portion of thread at the ends can get easily deformed, preventing the focuser parts from threading together at some points. By removing the thin thread ends this issue is negated. The outer focuser bottom thread may get some elephants foot but a deburring tool can make quick work of this.
  • The new thread starts make it easier to start screwing in.

My printer can leave some rough z-seams so I added a groove to the inner and outer focuser parts to hide the z-seam in and prevent it from marring the threads. Using Cura 5.1.0 I did the following to get the z-seam in the groove…

  • For the inner focuser…
    • Z Seam Alignment set to Sharpest Corner
    • Seam Corner Preference set to Smart Hiding
  • For the outer focuser…
    • Z Seam Alignment set to User Specified
    • Z Seam Position set to Left (this depends on the orientation of the model on the build plate, for me the groove was on the left side)

Finally I deleted the chamfers around the base edges of the inner focuser because they were causing issues with my bed adhesion on other prints.
