Many people consider a spinner knob (also known as a "suicide knob", or as I call it, a “speed dial”) on the steering wheel essential for docking small boats.

To preserve the wooden steering wheel of my Ranger Tug 31 and accommodate its relatively large size and oval cross section, finding a suitable off-the-shelf knob has been challenging. Instead, I opted to select a knob I liked, discard the included metal bracket, and design a custom bracket that precisely fits the shape of my steering wheel, including cross section and curvature.

I created a two-part interlocking design that eliminates the need for a hinge, and a specially designed separate flexible gasket to protect the wheel.

For the knob, I used Prusa ASA for its rigidity and matte finish, although PETG is a great alternative. As for the gasket, I printed it using Filatech FilaFlexible40.
