Background

Some crazy/retarded students love to play with the gas tap outlet in class. Flipping the switch is relatively minor (you can keep the master switch close), but they may tuck rubber fragments and sticky tape inside the outlet, causing either complete blockage or strange flame color, hence requiring repair by gas company.

This is a cover and a brim that interlock and screwed together. Students are unlikely to be able to touch the outlet hole or switch without a hex key or breaking the item by brute force.

Additional Materials

  • M3 x 1cm sucken hex screw (longer than 1cm is fine, but pointless)
  • M3 square nut (approx 5.4mm x 5.4mm x 2.4mm outer dimension)

Print material

  • ANY (PETG less likely to break but may have enough flex to slide the brim out)

Print Setting

No particular requirement but I would add modifiers to make 100% infill just around the nut slot and the screw head hole for better durability.

Other Notes

  • Dimension of bunsen burner gas tap may not be uniform over the world
  • Using Arc Welder may cause excessive stringing, but still usable

Field Test Observations

  • This is not invincible but makes vandalism attempts more difficult and easier to be exposed (snapping sound)
  • A brim printed from ductile material is not ideal as the whole mechanism can be bent and slided out in one piece
  • Be prepared to lose a few brims in the first two months as rogue students WILL challenge this mechanism on purpose
  • General classroom management and discipline is still essential
