Note: The large spool diameter is 77.6mm and the small spool diameter is 75mm

Updated 7/23/2023 to add a second spool which accommodates a smaller diameter cardboard spool. See the version with “SMALL" printed on the spool side.

Updated 7/21/2023 to modify the narrow spool so it is perfectly matching the width of the spool. Updated 3mf as well.

Unfortunately for Bambu owners, ERYONE has switched (without notice) to cardboard spools. And sadly, they don't work well with the Bambu AMS as it reports errors and jams. And, to make things worse, if you rip off the cardboard spool sides, the resulting spool is too small to fit on the original Bambu reusable spool.

This remix of the Bambu Spool has a smaller diameter. I printed in PLA with 3 wall loops and 50% infill.

Here's how you switch from the cardboard spools to the plastic ones.

  1. Use masking tape (or other easily removable tape) to tape down the end of the filament so it will not come unwrapped.
  2. Find the side where the end of the filament (last bit of it) is attached to the spool by feeling around the inside of the cardboard spool and carefully remove the OPPOSITE side of the cardboard spool by ripping it off. Be sure not to let the filament “spill” off of the spool. Remove all of it on that side.
  3. Slide the wider of the two plastic spools into the cardboard spool. Be sure and line up the notches if necessary. If the cardboard spool does not have a notch, then you may want to trim the protruding notch in the plastic spool with some filament snips. Make SURE the cardboard is flush with the side of the plastic spool.
  4. Carefully rip off the other side of the cardboard spool.
  5. Use filament snips to carefully trim the end of the filament where it attaches to the spool so it does not interfere with the narrow plastic spool part.
  6. Note the notches in the wide plastic spool and slide the narrow plastic spool inside the cardboard spool and rotate until it snaps into place.

Hope this helps others.
