LCD knobs for Mk4(S)/Mk3.5(S), XL, Mk3S, and Minis, with optional accent color ring. Fusion 360 file provided.
Update 11-13-2024: Added MMU version.
I was a fan of @bogdanko's display knob for a long time, but the advent of my XL and (soon) Mk4 made me take a fresh look at it. It felt a bit too large, and the spikes were very—well—spiky, so I pulled out Fusion 360 and started a new design from scratch, influenced by the “knurly” surface structure Bogdanko was using in his/her design. The result retains the tactile nature of Bogdanko's design; it's more compact to make the reset buttons more accessible; sheds the spiky spikes; and for good measure features an—optional—accent color ring.
STL files provided for Mk4S/Mk3.5, XL, Mk3S(+), and Mini(+). Print the knobs upside down, preferably in PETG, ASA, or PC-CF. PLA should be fine too, especially if not used in an enclosure. I printed the knobs with 0.1mm layer height for more detail. Use concentric top and bottom infill and preferably a textured steel sheet.
If you want to use the accent color ring, I found the best way to insert the ring into the groove is to align it with the groove on top of the knob, put everything upside down on a table, and press down hard on the knob so the ring slides into the groove.
Make sure the printer is off. Pull the old knob off and press the new one on the stud. It's a tight fit, so some force is required.
New: 3mf file with MMU version of the knobs. No need to print a separate accent ring. The accent ring component of the knob has a bit more depth to it, for deeper color.
