If you have a Virtual Boy, at some point you are going to end up needing to repair the LED connector cables. A much more permanent fix is the Virtual Ribbon mod from SegaSonicFan.

https://segasonicfan.wixsite.com/retro/virtual-ribbon

This is a difficult mod, but the v4 is a lot easier than the v3.x one I first tried, like a lot easier! Just as long as you are experienced in soldering (especially SMD) and have lots of flux, a high quality iron, and ignore his videos when he gives some crazy hot iron temp (stick to 280C!).

But also he later designed a 3D holder to assist, which he provides in PLA (maybe it's fine but feels safer to use a more heat resistant material).

Since I own a 3D printer already, it felt very wrong to pay $10 for this part when I could make it myself, but unfortunately he doesn't provide the STL file so I had to design my own…

…so I designed my own, added an additional mount point, and used it to solder my v4 Virtual Ribbons I had just received. And now I'm sharing them with others who also own a printer and want to make their own.

Be in mind you should use something like ABS with a small nozzle size (0.25 or smaller). If you do decide to try this with a 0.4mm nozzle, or PLA, or both, let me know how you get on. I've used mine twice now and it works great, and it's also good for many more so that's why I'm recommending these settings.

You are permitted to download and print this model, you must not distribute the model in any way, including remixing, or sell printed versions of this model.

I'm sorry it's not a more flexible license but model websites give people a financial incentive to distribute other people's models, so people keep re-publishing them which hurts the original creators and that makes me uneasy.
