Updates

  • 2025/01/16 : added prints for the DJI O4 Pro
  • 2023/06/02 : initial release of the V2 25 frame

Meet the PickleWhoop V2, it's a tiny FPV cinematic frame with carbon prop guards for slow and proximity flights … but it comes out it can freestyle too if you really need :)

I wanted something that's easy to build and to produce so i gave up on printable ducts. Those are heavy and requires specific materials for the best results. So here only carbon, just to prevent propellers to hit something or someone.

The V2 frame have been rethought to be way easier to build with a single standoff size needed and less part. It's slightly lighter than the original version with the same best in class flight behaviour and usability.

What changed from V1

I worked to simplify the building of the frame. Now it uses a single prop guard and a single standoff size of 20mm (there were 3 different and uncommon sizes in the v1). The frame gets slighty lighter by side effect. It's stil thought for xx04 motors (the prop comes in the right place for the guard to protect it) but xx05/6 motors should work too.

Updates

  • Nov 2023 :
    • added a HD Cam shoe mount
    • added an optional motor shim to adjust motor position to fit the prop in the guard perfectly. I use the 2mm one printed in PLA on my 1604 motors. You can also get it cut in carbon fibre at any thickness you need.

Frame Specs

  • 25 size (2.5" props) (more sizes to come)
  • WideX Layout
  • PW20 : supports 9x9 motors only
  • PW2_25 : Supports 9x9 and 12x12 motors
  • Support AIO FC (25.5x25x5 mount)
  • AIO and 20x20 mounts on the bottom plate (for DJI O4 Pro, O3, Vista, Walksnail VTX, etc) or other, easy access for work with detachable bottom plate)
  • HD Cam shoe that support Foxwhoop and CineLog cam mounts (M3 screw though)
  • Normal or toilet tank battery installation.
  • frame weight :
    • PW25v2 : ~30g of carbon (add 10-12g of hardware)

Fitting the DJI O3 AIR UNIT

The unit must be installed flush on the bottom plate (use longer M1.6 screws, 8 or 10mm, in replacement of the stock ones) or use just some VHB tape. The TPU spacer allows to sink the plate and unit by 3.5mm. This size still allows access to the usb port and SD Card.

The space between front standoffs is now 27mm instead of 26mm, that allows a better dampening for the O3 as the cam doesn't touch anymore the mount sides, it floats on its screws only.

Fitting the DJI O4 Pro

Mount it upside down, you need 4 M2x5mm screws to attach it on the bottom plate. Seat it flush on the plate. The TPU spacer have a cutout to have access to the SD Card slot.

Mounting harware

The frame is intended to have a low profile of 20mm between standoffs.

for a 6mm between guards and 18mm from plate to plate (it fits a naked vista) you need :

  • 12 x M2 20mm standoffs
  • 26 x M2 6 (or7,8)mm screws for frame mounting
  • 4 x M2 10mm for AIO installation
  • 8 x M2 2mm thick nylon nuts for AIO FC installation
  • PW25 : from 2 to 10 x M2 pressnuts : 2 for the bottom plate attach, optional 4 more for HD cam mount on the front of the frame. Optional 4 more for the vista installation on 20x20 mount. I designed the frame to use BetaFPV clamp nuts that have 3.1mm insertion hole.

Getting the frame cut

My recommended places are [www.cncmadness.com] (CA/US/Worldwide) and [www.carbon-posten.de] (EU/Germany), [CNC DRONE 91] (EU/France), [Haut Var FPV] (EU/France), [CNC Dupays] (EU/France). Great quality cuts and fair pricing/delivery time.

you need to send the provided DXF files with the following instructions :

PW25 V2 carbon parts (2.5" props) :
  • 1 x PW25v2 frame : 2.5 or 3 mm thick Carbon Fiber (try 2.5mm for ultralight builds)
  • 1 x PW25v2 guard : 2.5 or 3mm thick Carbon Fiber (try 2.5mm for ultralight builds)
  • 1 x PW bottom plate : 1mm thick Carbon Fiber (or 1.5mm)

You can optionally ask for countersunk holes on the top plate and have your screws sitting flush (center and rear holes eventually).

Feel free to ask me for directions and help.

My Setup (PW25 V2)

  • T-Motor P1604 3800 Kv Motors
  • Diatone Mamba F722 MK1 aio (running BF 4.3.1 + BlueJay esc firmware)
  • DJI O3 VTX
  • TBS Crossfire RX + Minimortal-T antenna
  • 650 mAh lipo

Differences of the remix compared to the original

This version is simpler. A single prop guard and same size standoffs.
