The seat filters for a 2013 F150 get dirty and need to be replaced. The filters used to be actual filters, but have been replaced by a 'vented cap' by Ford. This apparently is due to dirty filters heating up the fan they protect and wearing out the bearings.

Very odd if you ask me, once they needed a real filter now they don't...hmmmm. Plus the original filters are filthy, so were doing a great job before. The vented cap just stops large things going into the fan, but allows dust and dirst to get pushed into the seat. Doesn't sound like a great idea to me.

New OEM parts are north of $30 each

Photos

1 Original, rinsed, filter
2 This is what a New 'filter' looks like- note there is NO filter material in it!
3 Printed part on top of filter assembly after removing original filter material (I forgot to take a photo before I stuck on the furnace filter)
4 View from bottom of my 'New filter', using furnace filter

Diameter is 78mm and they are designed to be stuck to the bottom of the existing filter ring assembly, once you have removed the old filter.

I have since decided to use a furnace filter (had one spare due to COVID) and stuck that on the bottom of the filter ring assembly. Rationale being I think having some form of filter is better than none
