This is a remix of Dimitri De Cock's compact Wemos D1 box. I specifically wanted something for the Wemos D1 Mini V4.0, USB type-c port. With the number of changes I made and how terrible it looked in PrusaSlicer, I finally took sometime to relearn Fusion 360 and rebuilt the part. The changes I've made are:

  • Single cut out for 3 wires going to a WS2182 LED strip driven by WLED, tighter space so the wire doesn't wiggle (some force will be required to jam the wires in through this hole)
  • More sung hold on the board that I don't plan on removing (something like a spudger or small screwdriver will be required to fish a board out after it's been pressed in)
  • A much more tighter fitting lid (it hasn't popped off when I've done a number of drop tests)
  • Fingernail notch to pull the lid off
  • Cleanly prints with both 0.4mm and 0.6mm nozzles

Remember to figure out board orientation and feed the wires into the case first before starting to solder.

As an added bonus I've included a version of the lid with one of the cheerful LEDs from the WLED logo embedded 0.2mm in. Just print the WLED logo lid without any supports, the second layer will simply provide a different texture to the first layer which gives you the logo.

Do you want a different logo? Just grab the normal lid and stick a 0.2mm high negative part in PrusaSlicer against the build plate right inside the lid.

Do you want different cut outs for wires? Just use some negative parts in PrusaSlicer to make whatever holes you want. The possibilities are endless.

Do you want this design for a different board? I haven't made those. You can ask but I might not have the time. I have included the Fusion 360 files for these if you want to give it a try yourself.

With a 0.6mm nozzle at 0.3mm layer height you can print the case and lid in 15 minutes.

Warning: Unless you're testing with ~30 LEDs, please do not power your strip via the USB-C port on the Wemo. I have +5V going into the injector wires already presolder to my LED strips, that in turn provides power back to the Wemos board. Separately make sure you do not have both USB and +5V running into the board as other bad things will happen.
