Feast your eyes upon this fully articulating Kom'rk class fighter inspired by the “Nightbrother” ship piloted by Darth Maul in the rebel series.
Wings rotate 360 degrees with locking positions at 90 degree intervals, but there is good tension in the wings throughout their motion. Ship body also rotates 360 degrees. This model is printed without supports.
Update 07/24: Check out the Ezprint profile for a much more easy print, also can be printed much smaller with this file. Feel free to scale down as far as you want to risk! Some of the sprues may start to not be attached the smaller you go.
IMPORTANT! Please double check that your first layer is slicing as expected. The “springs” in the wing hub are very thin lines and will print floating with the first layer being set at .4 mm or greater. I set my first layer height to .38 mm and it prints perfect! All other settings shouldn't matter too much.
I have printed this multi-color and am happy with the outcome. I have a colored profile out but I have made a few small adjustments from the colored model to make assembly more easy (also I can't alphabet so the letters are wrong). Also, printing the boosters in multicolor is kind of a waste due to the many color changes so I am working on something for that.
Instructions:
To operate the wings smoothly it is recommended to press the wing in and put tension on the spring. This allows the knob to enter a slightly larger cavity in the assembly so pressure isn't applied to the wing hub assembly connectors. After many spins of the wings you may notice your assembly isn't as tight as before, just give it a little squeeze and it'll be fine. Super glue is not necessary but could help if your model has issues with the wings having enough tension. Just apply a small amount of glue when you assemble the wing hub and it'll be nice and tight!
I've been messing around with this model for a week or so and haven't had any durability issues yet! The springs still seem to hold their tension after many uses. Let me know if you have any issues!
Special thanks to @fixumdude for inspiring me to give designing my first kit card a try! It was a blast.
I hope you have as much fun with this model as I have. My wife somehow isn't sick of Darth Maul blasting her…hmmm..errr yea.
