The downside of the inverter charger I use is that it only allows up to 150V DC string open circuit voltage. This is a terrible downside as it requires parallel combinations of five short 3-panel strings, in turn upping the Amps and greatly increasing the size and cost of wiring. My grid-connected inverter allows 600V string voltage, enough for 12 panels in series. My shed uses 2 inverters for 15 solar panels each combined as 2 groups - 1 per inverter, of 5 parallel strings of 3 series cells.
The combiner boxes are fairly bulky which is why I modeled them to test the fit. I printed the “makes” using my Bambu Lab X1-Carbon with AMS in black, white, silver, and yellow with a 0.6mm nozzle, which turned out better than expected based on the slicer. I used variable layer height optimized for quality. Perhaps most surprising is that I can print 2 of them in 4-color glory in under 2 hours! Note I compared settings for a 0.2mm nozzle which looks like it would greatly improve the quality of the lettering and graphics. It takes longer but the layer height also shrinks to a minimum of 0.06mm finest resolution. I am tempted to test it at 0.2mm…. if you try it, please post a make!
Note I included 3mf print files for Bambu Studio which should preserve the colors I used, so long as you order them as (slot 1 to slot 4, respectively) black, white, silver, yellow.
** Update: I didn't have a measurement for the box thickness when I made the original model, and the manufacturer's description said it was 8 inches thick. It is actually 5 inches. Updated STEP, STL, 3MF file for 0.2mm nozzle.
