Magnetic mount for 10mm ESD snaps

This is a simple magnetic mount for 10mm ESD snap connectors that are commonly used around electronics workstations, including ESD mats, wrist straps, and grounding cords.

I wanted a magnetic mount that would allow me to connect an ESD mat to a steel rolling cart. I wanted the snap to be firmly mounted but also easily removable in case I needed to clean or replace the mat. A magnetic mount seemed like a nice way to accomplish this.

This mount requires three 6x10mm magnets and a common 10mm ESD snap. I had a hard time locating affordable ESD snaps but discovered that General Snap Fastener Kit 1265 is available at most hardware stores. I recommend using brass snaps because they are much easier to crimp than stainless (this mount does not require crimping, but many other situations do require a crimped snap).

I used a ring terminal to connect to the snap and secured it in place with a small countersunk screw and nut.
