CDs have become almost absolute now, rarely anyone uses it. Most of the households have a set of old unused CDs which are just lying and are thrown away or given for recycling.

These building blocks use the CDs are a connector and give it a new life.

These repurposed CDs can be painted and customized accordingly and the 3D printed blocks hold it together.

Print Parameters :

Resolution : 200/250um

Supports : None

Brim : YES

These are the following blocks that I've designed :

  1. Vertex Block
  2. Edge Block
  3. Tile Block

These blocks come in 2 versions

  • Edges with Attachment Support
  • Clean edges

The version with 'Attachment Support' basically helps you lock a large model into place with the help of a thread. The hole is of 1.46mm radius which is big enough for an M3 bolt to be inserted.

Some GLUE maybe required for the Clean Edge Building Blocks.

CDs with a STICKER on it won't fit properly inside these blocks. A plain clean CD is the best choice.

Edge Block

Tile Block

The design is very simple and quite intuitive as you can see. You can create and print as many blocks as you want and create different blocks / shapes and create a purpose for the same.

I made a hanging lamp using this (did not get time to paint the CDs)

The assembly is quite easy and intuitive. Explore all the possibilities and share the results!
