Have you ever found yourself in the position of needing a specific screw length, which either you do not own at the moment or is not even broadly available? No more!

ScrewCutter Workflow:

Suppose you need M3x16 screws, but you only have M3x20.

  1. Make sure you have M3 screws longer than the desired size.
  2. Download the corresponding model (“ScrewCutter_M3X16” in this case) and print it.
  3. Insert the nuts in position, as highlighted in the picture.
  4. Tighten the screws (if you need very precise length, you can now use a caliper to measure the length of the protrusion to be sure to cut exactly the right amount).
  5. Cut the excess length and, if needed, use sandpaper to get the screws flush with the external wall
  6. Untighten the cut screws. You now have what you needed!

The fastener holes are through holes to make it easier to remove the nuts before throwing away the print.

Note: you do not need all equal length screws for the sacrificial ones, since you are going to cut them, even if equal length makes the alignment easier.
