We have tomato plants on our balcony, but because of the plastic cages, there's no way to use a normal water spike with 2L bottles to keep them watered. They are in wooden crates though, 2 pots in each. So I designed this bridge. It uses a single 2L bottle, and has 2 spikes to go into each pot.

I printed at 0.15 layer height for better layer adhesion and hopefully to keep it water tight with PLA, you can save about 8 hours by printing at 0.28 instead, even if it leaks a little you probably wont notice.

I included the STEP files so feel free to make the resevoir smaller to save material, it's fairly large as it is.

Reservoir is 9" long.
Spikes are 3" from tip to start of threads.

Printing:

  • At least 4 walls.
  • 10% cubic infill.
  • 3 bottom layers.
  • 4 top layers.
  • Print inital layer slow (I printed at 20mm/s).
  • Threads should be perfect if you have at least a 0.2mm tolerance.

Post processing:

  • Super glue the lid to the base for a good seal.
  • For a good seal on the spike threads you can use teflon tape.
  • Screw the resevoir to the bottle tight, but don't over-do it, if you think you're going too hard, you probably are.
