Description

PDF

I wanted to build a BCD Clock, similar to the one I got that originally came from ThinkGeek.

I used 24 60ppm LEDs, in four six-pixel strips. There is a channel in the Panel Back, along with LED "center markers."

All connections are done with 6mm x 3mm magnets.

No PCB stand-offs are included in the Stand Case. You may want to add your own.

The ESPHome code for the clock can be found on Github.

I've included the Fusion 360 export. This is **mostly** driven by User Parameters. I've grouped logical pieces together and provided names. That said, you'll benefit from studying how it is made before trying to make changes. No guarantees that I did any of it "right" ;)

Printing and Post Processing Details

  • Print in provided orientations.
  • I printed everything at 0.3mm layer height, probably 20% infill.
  • Supports are helpful for the power ingress and magnet holes (on the front) on Stand Case.
  • Supports are helpful for magnet pockets on the underside of Panel Back.
  • I prefer the Diffuser at 0.5mm printed in white, although the standard Diffuser model in Geetech Transparent looked pretty cool, too.
  • I'd recommend printing Light Channel Grill in black to reduce color bleed (although when printed in white, the color bleed looks kind of cool).
  • Use Superglue to attach the magnets.
  • I used 0.4" VHB tape to affix the LED strips to Panel Back.
  • I used 24 AWG solid core wire to connect the LED strips.
