The hardware is based on Adafruit Huzzah32 Feather plus Music Maker Featherwing with an MAX98306 amplifier, Visaton K28.40 speakers and a PN532 RFID reader. The software will be Arduino based and released on github (sometime in the future, nothing there just yet).

The bottom side is also LEGO compatible and also features a (5,5mm barrel jack) port for charging - the corresponding charge-dock model will also be released here (soonish).

The knob on the top side controls the volume (right/left turns) and mute (short press) as well as power-on/off (long press). The corresponding MP3 file/playlist data is read from an RFID tag and played from the music makers SD card (as long as the RFID tag remains in range). In the pictures, a small bullet-style RFID tag is put into a small (drilled) hole from below into the LEGO figure - very much like a suppository ;). Any form of RFID tag attached/inserted to LEGO bricks/figures is of course possible - the distance from the center nibbles (where the PN532 RFID reader is located underneath) must be rather short, though (like 2-3cm / 1 inch).
