Adjustable Holder (OpenSCAD)

During the testing of my “Transfer Funnels” and my “Bottle-to-Bottle Funnel” it was obvious that there needed to be a way to prevent the tall, wobbly conglomeration from falling over. And when using a funnel, such as my “Funnel with Fins” that there was a need for a third hand. So, I designed this light duty vise-like adjustable stand to solve the problem.

The Design

I designed this solution in OpenSCAD so you can make it any size you need.

The base has slots that hold uprights. The idea is to lightly pinch the item in place with some extra base on either side to prevent it from tipping.

With the Customizer you can decide the length, width, height, number of slots, width of slots, and size and shape of the uprights. You can set the clearance (between the upright and base) to get a snug fit.

The uprights offer a small amount of extra width on one side to give a tighter grip depending on which way they are facing.

Clearance Test

There is an option to generate a small quick clearance test to make sure you have it right before doing a long print. It creates a small section of the base with one slot and a piece of the upright for testing. Both items are created as a single STL. They need to be separated and the upright laid flat as you would print the final parts.

Part separation in PrusaSlicer

• Right click on the model and select “Split to Objects”

Part separation in Cura

• Go to Marketplace
• Select and install Mesh Tools plug in, and restart Cura
• Right click on the model and select split into parts

Note: You can create the upright STL and the base STL separately by unchecking the visibility of one or the other. If you forget, the STL will be of both – but can still easily be separated as above.
