Hello,
for those that don't know my ‘insert philosophy’ - I am creating modular inserts that are focused on reducing setup and space on table, filament consumption is not my highest priority, but of course I'm trying to save some material where I can.
Update 31.07.2024 - version 2.0:
- major redesign, all files replaced with new ones. Old files are in Version 1 folder,
- 26 models resulting in 26 parts (around 38 counting all card separators) in old design vs 19 models resulting in 20 parts (aroung 28 counting all card separators). Insert simplified a bit, teardown should be easier and faster,
- around 1040g on my current settings needed for 1st version vs 880g for 2nd version. 160g lighter! That's a significant filament reduction,
- reduced magnets usage - in previous version 30 magnets were needed, currently only 6 (and if you're careful - they're not required),
- no need to glue anything (well, you will only need to glue magnets if they're loose),
- no supports required,
- removed expedition dashboard - I think it was overkill,
- I added holder for large map tiles,
- I combined all map tiles and special building tiles into one holder,
- I introduced one holder for cards needed during the game (Dusk cards) with space to put Dusk deck vertically (so basically it should replace Dusk board and save some table space),
- all resources and all workers are now in one compartment, additionaly I incorporated here hope and discontent tracks (to replace the board and save some table space),
- weather cards got separate holder.
I decided to do this update to mainly optimize teardown and reduce needed table space as much as I can and thanks to 2 resource / token holders (compared to 3 in previous version) + incorporating 2 boards into the holders + possibility to put laws / completed technologies into the resource holders - I was able to do so.
Important Notes:
- Clearence for holder covers is very small - 0.2mm horizontal. Please print the smallest holder and cover for it to check if it fits, if not you may need to calibrate printer or enlarge cover a bit (adding 0.2-0.4mm to the width in the slicer should be enough),
- There are two multicolor holders - Resources_Holder_1 and Resources_Holder_2 - I printed death icon in white, but two colors are not needed, they just increase a bit more visibility.
Supports:
- vertical storage,
- Frostlander expansion,
- sleeves - this is mainly designed for 70 microns sleeves (I use Sloyca),
- there is a possibility that realistic resources will fit, but I can't verify that.
This insert features:
- buildings holder - it goes over buldings board and fits all board buildings, so you don't need to sort them each game. Additionally you can put law buildings vertically in special compartment,
- cards game holder - for dusk cards + generator upgrade + expedition cards + two compartments which eliminates the need for dusk board - you can put your dusk decks here,
- resources holder - one for workers, one for resources. One of them has discontent track, second has hope track built in. Additionaly you can put cards here vertically (for example introduced laws, scenario card, researched technologies),
- tiles map buildings holder - for all map tiles, buildings introduced in laws and scenario trigger tokens,
- cards weather, morning holders - take the holders out and put them on the corresponding boards, you don't need to take out the cards,
- cards setup holder - for all other cards that are used mainly during the setup,
- tokens setup holder - for all other tokens that are used mainly during the setup,
- tiles map large tray - for large map tiles.
Requirements:
- about 880g filament needed, (depends on your settings, I printed with 15% gyroid infill, 2 walls, 5 top and 3 bottom layers),
- 6 magnets 6mm x 3mm - although they are not required if you're careful,
- at least 201mm x 205mm print bed.
Instructions:
Supports - no supports required.
- every file ended with xX (for example x16) - print X times (in given example - 16 times),
- refer to pictures how to organize the box,
- spacers, cards dividers - if there are any in this insert - I printed them with 4 walls, no top, bottom, honeycomb infill.
- joints - if there are any joints in this insert - you will need to slowly put one joint over the hole in the second part for it, second under, third over and so on. You don't need to use glue here, although it will strengthen the part a bit (I didn't).
What future holds:
- I think this insert is done, although there is a little space over the generator, maybe I will come up with another part that will save needed table space.
Enjoy!
