After remodeling our guest bathroom we had two glass shower doors that I wanted to repurpose into white boards for my office. These work perfectly with PLA as the Stand Off does not bear any weight, it is simply a decorative bolt cover.

You will need the following additional hardware to make these work:

A. 5/16 x 3 inch lag screws

B. Plastic Tubing (3/8" OD 1/4" ID) - cut into 1/4" length

Instructions:

  1. Find the studs in your wall (they must be wood studs for this to work).
  2. Drill a 7/32" hole for the lag bolt about 2 ½" deep.
  3. Feed the lag screw through the Bolt Carrier so the bolt head sits in the recess.
  4. Thread the short piece of plastic tubing onto the bolt and twist until it is snug against the bolt carrier. (Dipping the tube in hot water can help soften the tubing)
  5. Feed the bolt into the Stand Off Base
  6. Using a 1/2" socket wrench, drive the bolt into the pre-drilled hole. DO NOT TIGHTEN ALL THE WAY, Leave some slack for the glass.
  7. You will need at least two Stand Offs at the bottom to hold the glass.
  8. Set the glass in the bottom Stand Offs and using a new Stand Off with Bolt, mark where the top Stand Off should be to hold the glass in place.
  9. Take the glass back down to drill the top holes.
  10. Place the glass in place and install the top Stand Off to hold it in place.
  11. If you have more than one top Stand Off, tighten them each a little at a time to not put pressure on the glass.
  12. You will not want these squeezing the glass, so tighten until they are close, but still have a tiny amount of play.
  13. Once everything is in place, press fit the bolt caps for a finished look.Stand
