A lockable pegboard rivet for 1/4" pegboard.

This is based on similar designs I found on Thingiverse, but tweaked to my liking.

I liked the general design of Kenneth Stout's rivets, but they seemed too long to me; stuff I mounted with them was not held tight against the pegboard. I liked the locking feature of Jon Sander's rivets, but the hole seemed too big for 1.75mm filament, and I wasn't fond of the shape.

I designed mine with the same head dimensions as Kenneth Stout's, so they should be compatible.

Things designed to accept these rivets should be made to these specifications:

  • Thickness: 1/8" / 3.175mm
  • Hole size: 6.5mm (a bit bigger than 1/4")
  • Counterbore diameter: 9.8mm
  • Counterbore depth: 1.6mm

Push the rivet through the accessory mounting hole, and into the pegboard hole. Lock it by inserting a bit of 1.75mm 3D printer filament into the hole, and cutting it off flush. Unlock by using another bit of filament to push the locking piece right through until it falls free.

I have released these designs that are made to accept these rivets:

Print instructions

I print these with a .15mm layer height, and standing on their heads.

The center hole tends to come out a bit small. After printing, I drill it out with a #50 drill. That seems to yield a nice friction fit for 1.75mm filament.
