This is a downspout guard that fits over a squarish 3" X 3-¼" downspout with multiple rows of drainage holes. The drainage holes on the bottom are flush with the base, which should prevent any water retention. A screw hole is provided for a standard #8 X ½" self-piercing downspout screw which allows this to be very securely mounted.
This prevents birds and small animals from climbing and nesting inside and up the downspout.
Eavestroughs must have leaf guards - leaves and large debris will quickly clog this guard.
The fit is very tight in order to prevent gaps and assure a secure mounting. It should be pushed in flush with your hand. There should be no gaps, so no caulking or sealing is required. The screw completes the mounting.
This is designed to be as sturdy as possible, with 5mm thick walls and thick posts between drainage holes. Print at 0.2mm layer height with high infill, I used 95%. Print grill side down, which will have a high surface area.
It is easy to print with no raft, brim or supports required, but the print will take a while because there's a lot of material here.
Ideally this would be printed in PETG for water and UV resistance. I only had access to PLA-F so it will need replacing but I hope it will last a summer at least.
Print settings:
Material: PETG preferred, reinforced/strengthened PLA if necessary
Layer height 0.2mm
Supports not required
Raft not required
Brim not required
Infill: ≥50%
