ABOUT THIS MODEL:

2022 Subaru BRZ Fog Light Brackets for Diode Dynamics SS2 SAE Fog Lights

After 2 months of development and 5 revisions of this design, I now have the “final” revision printed and mounted on my 2022 Subaru BRZ (as of this posting - 2 months of use). I was bummed there was no options out there for auxiliary lighting on my BRZ, and I was especially bummed about not having fog lights from the factory after really loving the look (not the output) of the OEM fogs on the first generation (2013-2021). This is my first ever 100% designed from scratch 3D model.

As with any and all modifications to a vehicle, I (Mark Breeden) accept no responsibility for any accidents, injuries, citations by law enforcement, complaints, law suits, damages, or failures caused by anyone attempting to use this design for their vehicle or anyone else's.

***** USE THIS DESIGN AT YOUR OWN RISK *****

NO DRILLING REQUIRED on the vehicle

These fog light brackets “wrap around” the vertical grill slats in the BRZ bumper. When these brackets are combined with the Diode Dynamics Stage Series 2 (aka - SS2), they are fully adjustable left-to-right and up-and-down. I was able to angle these to cut-off just below my headlight cut-off,  and they have served me very well.

SLICING AND PRINTING

I printed the in Overture PETG in Black on my Anycubic Kobra (standard). The design is fairly resistant to variations in printing temperature, layer height, and printing speed. However, I recommend printing it as slowly as possible for the best look on the front side of the verticals which can be seen once you are all done. I sliced this in Prusa Slicer, and I used their “organic” tree supports to help with the overhangs.

My Parameters:
  • Elmers Glue on PEI Sheet
  • PETG was dehydrated to below 30% relative humidity
  • Layer Height - 0.3mm
  • Perimeters - 3 (minimum)
  • Infill - Gyroid at 20%)
  • Top Layers - 4
  • Bottom Layers - 4
  • Supports - Organic
    • 0.2 Top (detachable)
    • 0.1 Bottom
  • Speeds
    • Printing - 40mm/s
    • Travel - 140mm/s
    • First Layer - 30mm/s
  • Temps
    • First Layer 245º C
    • Other Layers 230º C
  • Cooling
    • Bridges - 10% fan speed
    • Other - 15% fan speed

ASSEMBLY / INSTALL

Removing the bumper cover requires a 10mm Socket and a #2 Phillips Screwdriver. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING PICS OF WHICH SCREWS GO WHERE AND WHICH PIECES INTERTWINE IN WHAT ORDER. There is a ton of hardware keeping this cover on the car. There are videos on YouTube that cover this process.

As for the assembly of the brackets, once you have the bumper cover off the vehicle install once side at a time:

  • These brackets are ONLY designed to go on the lowest vertical slats in the grill.
  • These brackets are ONLY designed to go in the second most outer opening in the grill.
  • (For Each Side) Place the verticals over the grill slats. (see picture above)
    • the “6mm” verticals go to the “inside” or closer to the middle of the grill.
    • the shorter/non-labeled verticals go to the outside.
    • The captive nuts should be facing inward or toward the base bracket.
  • Slide the base bracket into the verticals, and insert the (4x) 10-24 screws with a lock washer and a flat washer under the screw head.
  • Place the nuts (4x) in the captive nut slots, and turn the screw until the nuts are firmly in the captive nut slots. DO NOT TIGHTEN ALL THE WAY!
  • Mount your Fog Lights to the base.
  • Slide the Top of the bracket into the vertical and add (2x) 4x) 10-24 screws with a lock washer and a flat washer under the screw head.
  • Place the nuts (2x) in the captive nut slots, and turn the screw until the nuts are firmly in the captive nut slots. DO NOT TIGHTEN ALL THE WAY!
  • Push the Top piece all the way forward with your thumb while pulling back on the Vertical piece with your other 4 fingers. Then use your other hand to tighten the screw for the top of the bracket until it is snug. Be careful not to over tighten.
  • Once your wiring is in place, you can reassemble the bumper, turn on the lights, correct their alignment/position, and then tighten the remaining screws to secure the positioning. Be careful not to over tighten.

USES AND LICENSING

While I had debated making more and selling them, but I have neither the time nor the resources to support another business/hobby. Therefore, I am making this free-for-use and free-to-remix. THIS DESIGN IS NOT TO BE USED COMMERCIALLY OR SOLD. I am not sharing this so that anyone else can make a profit. This is to be openly available for individuals to make and remix only.
