I loved the original design by dammitcoetzee, and made the following changes:

  • Rounded end caps and filleted edges make it more comfortable to hold and use.
  • Two-part design means both outer faces rest on the build plate, allowing the collar to slide smoothly against a glossy surface.
  • Tight-fitting collar removes the need for a bulky measuring tape. Even if your tape is thinner than mine, this should hold it in place.
  • Centered and symmetrical notch means you can insert the measuring tape from either end.

Print the two halves separately and then fit the pegs into the holes to assemble. In my tests with PLA, it was a nice fit and did not require glue, but you could use a little glue if you want.

The collar should slide on nicely, but for extra smooth sliding, slightly squeeze the sides of the collar that are closest to the tape when adding or removing it.
