If you have a slippery table surface or if you - like me - “drive” your car along the track, from time to time you will have pushed the tiles by accident, destroying the track.

You can print these interconnectable elements to build a grid that holds the race track tiles in place, making accidental pushes irrelevant. Also, now you can easily move the whole race track to a different position on the table without re-assmbling it. Just slide the whole thing to where it needs to go.

The connection between the elements is pretty loose because I wanted assembly and disassembly of the grid to be quick. However, this also means you will not be able to lift the whole thing up.

A race track tile should fit into an element without needing any force. If you push down at the corner of a tile, it will tilt up, which is is helpful if you need to remove a tile from within the race track.

Also, turns out the elements are stackable. ^_^

Print 2 or 3 of the test models first to check the connection. If you need force to connect them, the print might be too “thick” and chances are the race track tiles will also need to be pushed into the grid to fit (which could damage them). In that case set the x/y compensation option to -0.05 or -0.1 and repeat the test print.
