I have an ongoing project that requires a rather large project box that houses all the electronics plus a 2-Cell Li-Ion battery-pack. I placed a modeled battery holder in the center of the box. It also has a retainer clip to keep the battery from falling out. As I usually do, I modeled the holder separately to make sure the clip will seat properly. As I had the model up, I thought it would be a good idea to make the base a bit wider and add some mounting holes in order to be able to use it as standalone. So here it is for anyone needing to add a battery-pack to an external location or just add it inside an existing box.
I highly recommend that you print the battery clip with no more or no less than 3 perimeters. This will give the clip just enough spring to seat very well. Print the clip in the upright position and paint supports where needed. You may need an X-ACTO knife to trim the supports and level the rectangular clip holes. I would not use supports on the holder clip holes as they are only 0.1875" wide and should print just fine or at least it did for me.
The holder base mount holes are spaced 1.875" x 1.375". The base is 3.00" x 1.75". The total inside height is 0.875" and the inside dimension is 2.665"L x 0.775"W and should easily accept any type 18650, 2-Cell battery-pack. I have two (2) battery-packs, both different brands and both measure from 1.450" to 1.452" wide.
Sorry, the photos of the holder is one before I extended the base width and added mount holes, but other than that, it is the same. The 3D render will show the updated version.
Happy printing ;p
