Falcon 9 LED Landing Pad

LED Landing Pad for the Falcon 9 1:100 Model by Everyday Astronaut
 

No tools, no soldering, no supports, around 300g of filament.

Print Settings

2 perimeters (vertical shells)
5 solid top layers
3 solid bottom layers
20% of Cubic infill which should be more than enough for structural integrity. Don't use too little, otherwise the bottom will not print correctly since it has to print the bottom on top of the infill.
 

Bottom Box

Print in "normal" orientation, without supports.

The bottom plate of the box is a little thick, which kinda wastes some material for nothing, but I didn't feel like redesigning or reprinting it just for that.

I have used “matt black” filament (link below).

Top Lid

Print the lid upside down to avoid the needs for supports and get a smooth “top” finish (after turning it around)

For additional effect, I have printed the top lid using “glow in the dark" filament (link below). For maximum effect, use the blue LEDs to “charge” the filement, as blue light has a much more energy.

You can also just use a white filament and get a similar result, since the top layer is pretty thin and translucent enough. Avoid using darker colors.

The lid is just put on top of the box and has no mechanism for “securing” it. If your printer is sloppy enough, the lid will be tight anyway, and since the model stands on top of it should not be a concern.

LED Ring

The LED Ring is a “241 LEDs 9 Rings WS2812B 5050 RGB LED 5V” assembly from amazon (link below).
it fits on top of the inner inset of the box, leaving room below it for wires and the controller.

LED Controller 

The controller I used is the dig2go, which is one of the QuinLED products by Quindor from Intermittent Technology (link below).
