Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Sega Dreamcast VMU battery cover! Painstakingly re-created from scratch down to (almost) every minute detail! From the pointless little circles to the battery tab slot to the ever-so-slight angle on the ends of the tabs, it's all here! The only exception being the indent for the sticker on the back but I only left that out to make sure it's 3D-printer friendly. But who cares about all that right? You just lost your battery cover and need a new one. So here ya go! Enjoy!

If you need a replacement screw, an M2-0.4x6mm should do the trick.

Printing tips:

  • This model can be printed support-free but I recommend putting a little support under each of the tabs and in the screw hole.
  • The hole for the screw head may need to be cleaned out a bit after printing.
  • I recommend printing with 0.1mm layer height for accuracy.
  • Printing at a higher-than-normal temp for your filament is a good idea as it will result in better layer adhesion for the tabs which is the stress point. I use 230C for PLA.

Update 1/27/2025: I increased the width of the tabs by about 20% to make them just a bit stronger.

Update 6/16/2025: I made some more adjustments to the tabs to make the fit a bit looser as I found out the fit was way too tight on Japanese VMUs. For some reason they seem to have a much smaller tolerance. Now it fits nicely no matter the region.

Be sure to post your makes! If you like the design, please consider tipping on Ko-fi. Thank you! :-)
