I made a magnetic base for my sanding block design. The idea is to have magnets attract the screws in the sanding blocks.
By default the design works with 6mm diameter, 3mm height magnets. The magnet's thickness dictates the strength of the base. It can be changed in the SCAD file. The parameters of the sanding blocks can be changed, too.
I just added the magnets and mounted the whole base against a backing board. That holds the magnets in. If you want you can give them a drop of glue. Since you'll mount it somehow, tape is also a viable way to hold the magnets.
Each design is supplied as STL and 3MF. Each design comes with and without 4mm mounting holes.
The cover is a bit silly. It is the first version that didn't make it here. And, it is almost invisible. That - in my mind - is the point of a tool stand.
Hopefully, you see that the base is mounted to the side of a shelf and the blocks are held in place by magnets. The weight of the blocks is supported by the rounded lip at the bottom.
