It's kind of tedious and slow to switch spools using the stock spool holder due to the relatively fine threads on the rod. The goal of this spool holder is to make spool changes faster and easier. It's more coarsely threaded (M30), requiring far fewer turns to seat and even has an optional little knob to make installations and removals even faster. You could even print multiple to make spool changes almost instantaneous.

The spool holder is a drop in replacement for the stock holder, but does require some additional hardware to be fully functional:

2x ferrous M3x6-12*

1x M3x16

1x M3 washer

*The length isn't critical, but being magnetic is. These are installed at the base of the printed screw (see pictures) to magnetically anchor the spool holder to the hub on the extruder.

Print Settings

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.2mm

Infill:

15%

Filament:

Any...your own maybe? Why is this a required field? PETG, PLA, anything that bridges well and doesn't warp

Notes:

Printing:
Print everything as oriented without supports at 0.2mm layer height.

Post-Printing

The printed screw has an integrated support in the bottom center (twist off with pliers). In order to eliminate the need for supports elsewhere, the two screw holes at the base of the printed screw have a one-layer thick cover. Remove the bridged layer covering the holes and install the two magnetic M3 6-12mm long screws with the heads flush or just proud of the surface. If using the knob, install it in the printed nut with an M3x16 socket head screw. Optionally use an M3 washer between the knob and the printed screw.
