This is an original set that I designed for travel use.
Materials:
Superglue
32 x Any 6mm x 2mm wide cylindrical magnet (Amazon Link)
OR
32 x 6mmx3mm cylindrical magnet (Amazon Link)
Printing Parameters:
I used .15mm layer height with supports at 15 degrees and 20% infill but I don't think there is anything too demanding here.
Print Inside Magnet:
Pause the print at the layer before the magnet pocket is bridged over. Apply the magnets with a drop of superglue or the magnets can be pulled out by the metal hot-end.
Open bottom magnet Install:
You can fine tune the magnet depth by stacking tape on the back of the magnet if you need a stronger attraction or if you plan on adding a bottom surface to the pieces like felt or cork.
Put a drop of superglue on the inside of the chess piece then push the magnet in by lining it up and pressing it on to a table.
Stacking two magnets before pressing it gave me the best results, seating the magnet all the way in and allowing me to remove the second magnet after.
Notes:
These magnetic pieces will only work with magnetic material boards. The board I am currently using is made from a 1/16th in thick sheet of steel.
