Additional Parts

You will require the following additional parts to assembly the lamp.

Customization

The Fusion 360 file (f3d) is also included, so you can customize it to your needs. It currently has no parameters defined yet to set the basics (width, depth, …) but will be updated soon.

Printing

The following parts do require a pause to insert the square nuts:

  • Spacer Bottom
  • Handle

The provided 3MF files already include a filament change at the correct layers to achieve this.

Assembly

Cut out eight pieces of felt. Outer diameter ~40mm (or a bit less), inner diameter ~12mm. The thickness is quite essential that the arms are fixed when screwed together, but are not squished together too much and make the arms hard to swivel. If you only have thinner felt, you can stack multiple ones together, or maybe even use multiple layers of ordinary fabric, which should work too.

Press in one of the M4 nuts into the case top:

And the two other M4 nuts into the arm mount:

Then screw it on to the case top with one of the M4 screws:

Prepare the aluminum profiles by cutting them to the length you want.
NOTE: I recycled profiles from another project which already had LEDs glued in. You should of course do it after preparing them.

The plastic cover should be ~16 mm shorter than the profile itself:

Drill a 4 mm hole 10 mm from the edge on one end of each profile:

Cut some wires, at least 10-12 cm long:

Press the button into the printed “button ring”:

Solder on the wires to the LED strips:

I used a little bit of hot glue to fix the cables on the sides (to prevent them from being squished later). As mentioned already above, the cover has to be ~16 mm shorter than the profile.

Put on the top and bottom holders for the arms:

I used the original cable of the lamp (⚠ cut off the power plug too if you do the same).
One of the red and the black cable of the touch button is the input, the other red and the yellow one the output.

Now the fiddly part starts…

Solder together all the positive (red) cables and also the negative ones (black/yellow):

Glue in the button to keep it in the correct orientation:

Screw on the handle to the case bottom with the two M3 screws:

(Don't forget to add the felts. Not as I did first 🤦)

Screw the case top and bottom together with the long M4 countersink screws:

Add the rounded part of the arm mount and screw on the IKEA Tertial arm using the remaining M4 screws:

Finally add the end caps for the profiles and solder on the the power supply (wall wart) to the end of the IKEA Tertial cable.
