In the spirit of Open Source, the Fusion 360 and 3MF files are freely provided along with the 3MF and GCode files to print it in multi colour on a Prusa MK3S with a 0.4 nozzle and in Prusament PETG.
The multi colour 3MF allows you to change printer settings to suit PLA, tweak speeds, modify for a different model of printer, etc.
If you don't trust my 3MF or GCode, use the Body and Text 3MF files to do the settings yourself.
To print the multi colour GCode:
- Load the filament colour you want for the main body of the sign - I recommend BLACK.
- Send the print and the printer will go through the normal home, warm up, auto bed level and prime line.
- It will then park and request a filament change - this is your last chance in-case you have the wrong colour loaded. Follow the on-screen prompts and unload and load the filament. If you are reloading the colour you already had load, you only need one purge. If you load a different colour, I recommend saying ‘No’ to the prompt about whether or not the colour is correct a minimum of 6 times to fully purge.
- One you say ‘Yes’, the extruder will purge a little more filament and then start a single skirt line to build extruder pressure. It's best to gently grab and hold onto this extrusion as the print head moves and then swiftly pull it off just before is start the skirt line.
- The printer will print the first layer of the main body - yes, it's slow to give a good quality result. It will then park the head and request a filament change.
- Unload the filament and swap in the colour you want for the text - I recommend Prusa Orange. Again, I recommend a minimum of 6 purges for the colour change. The extruder will purge a little more filament and then start a second single skirt line to build extruder pressure. It's best to gently grab and hold onto this extrusion as the print head moves and then swiftly pull it off just before is start the skirt line.
- The printer will then print the first and second layer of the second colour before parking for the last filament change.
- Repeat the unload and load process to go back to the original colour along with the recommended minimum of 6 purges.
- The printer will them complete the print.
Enjoy!
