This tool consists of a base, an adapter to hold a part, and a peen to form the leads of a TO220 into something resembling an SMT component.
The base mounts to a Panapress model 502 light assembly press. The center of the base is centered under the ram.
There is a 36x41 recess in the base to accept a die or adapter for the part to be formed or assembled. The die mounting holes are asymmetric so a die can only be installed one way. This variation has 4 mm clearance holes for heat-set threaded inserts.
I printed the part holder on edge, so the layer lines will go through the hump that supports the leads during the press operation.
The holes are on 25.4 x 25.4 mm pattern, with the lower left hole shifted by 2.7 mm.
The die is 35 x 40, with a pocket to accept a part. The mounting holes are sized for M3 socket head cap screws.
The peen is designed to nest inside the die with some clearance.
2023-04-28 update: added some variations of the top tool and part holder, and un-confused some of the filenames.
Printing with Polymaker PETG-ESD at high infill values, > 60%.
