Inspired by a 3D printed hanging lamp I saw, I designed this lamp shade with a magnetic base.
I plan on designing some other lamp shade designs in the future. I will also upload .step files so anyone can modify them to their liking and add new shade designs.
The base uses a standard E27 cable / mount.
24.04.23: Uploaded correct bulb mount.
29.06.23: I realized that i uploaded the wrong size for the lamp shade, I uploaded the correct one (as seen in the pictures); I'm very sorry for the mistake. I also added the Fusion File and the step file to create your own.
BOM:
- 10x 6x3 neodym magnets (I used N45, but weaker ones should work too)
- Super glue
- Cable and mount for E27 lamps
- E27 lightbulb
Print instructions
- Print the lamp shade in vase mode (I used a forced width of 0.7 mm on a 0.4 nozzle to make it more rigid)
- Print the other parts however you like, no ironing needed if printed as is.
Assembly
- Glue or insert the magnets into the holes of the ring and the base (I used some glue to fixate them, the holes are not pressfit).
- Glue the ring to the inside of the lampshade.
- Let the glue dry and then install the E27 cable in the base.
- Screw in the lightbulb
- Install the whole assembly
Instructions for Fusion File
- Move the slider back between the third and sixth step (I normally use between 3 and 4)
- Draw whatever you want, create your shapes, etc. (Important to do this between the specified steps)
- After you're done, move the slider to the end to hollow it out and get the magnet base
- Done!
The .step file is already “done”, so it is hollowed out and everything, you will have to find a way to add your design on the outside
