Update version 3, 23.04.2023

Redesigned to fit with AMS lid closed.

IMO it's less convenient design than v2 but it's possible to fit in entirely inside AMS. Might be troublesome for spools with larger quantities of filament.

I think I'll give up at this point - it's “good enough” for me to use and I lack further skills to significantly improve it.

Printing

0.4 nozzle, 0.12mm layer, 100% infill, no supports - made mine with PETG

Assembly

No glue required. Before first use try to screw the ring onto both parts combined in your hand, thread might be a bit too tight (I had some blobs preventing it to fit that I've just cleared with a knife blade)

  1. Fit the front facing part onto AMS funnel cap
  2. Thread the filament through the ring
  3. Thread the filament through the cutout in the top of back facing part
  4. Push the filament into AMS (make sure to hold the ring and back facing part with your hand so it doesn't interfere with AMS autoload)
  5. Put in a little piece of (~10x10mm) sponge between the back part and filament wire - squeeze it into the back part so that the sponge wraps over filament
  6. Slide and fit the back facing part with the sponge onto AMS funnel cap
  7. Secure it by screwing the ring on the thread

Update version 2, 21.04.2023

AMS lid doesn't fully close with filter v2

  • Split grip part for better printing and fit
  • Slightly improved thread
  • Extended grip area
  • Added larger container and smooth edges versions (untested yet)

Printing

Grip:

0.4 nozzle, 0.12mm layer, 100% infill, no supports (I've just used 0.12 Fine profile that came with Bambu Studio)

Container:

0.4 nozzle, 0.16mm layer, 100% infill, no supports (again, used 0.16 Optimal Bambu profile)

Assembly

Once printed fit both halves (one by one) to AMS feeder cap, sliding the front first, then the back. Screwing container on top of it locks it in place, with very little chance to fall off or break.

Put in a piece of sponge or into container to collect dust. You can also add PTFE tube (inside on the grip and outside on container).

I've based this on great model from https://www.printables.com/model/425018-bambu-lab-over-engineered-ams-feeding-funnel

I have some filament that was in a dusty environment and want to put a sponge filter on, but it's tricky thing to achieve with AMS. Have not seen any other models for this yet so I've decided to try make one and share.

Version 1, 20.04.2023

This is a first attempt, far from great, as I have zero skills in 3d modelling. The thread is a very tight fit, on purpose. You don't really need to screw it the whole way, just enough that it's secured.

WARNING: if any part of this gets disconnected while AMS is winding filament back onto the spool it would get onto the spool and may cause damage (unlikely much damage, but still). Use at your own risk.

No supports required.

Test printed 0.4 nozzle, 0.16mm layer height, 2 wall loops, 100% infill, PLA - so far broke when I've tried to fit it on AMS.

Issues so far:

  • Very tight thread (could be just a tiny bit more loose) or use a bit of lube
  • Need flat side surfaces to ease grip for opening/closing
  • PTFE tube entry hole too narrow
  • The cap part easily breaks of
