When your out camping (or POTA or SOTA) and you want to substantially increase the distance of your VHF radio - a J-Pole or Slim Jim is an easy way to do it. This antenna is made from a 54" length of 300 ohm twin lead wire. I'm not going to go into detail here about how to make it - there are tons of articles and videos on the Internet to show you that. Basically you solder a connector on one end, make a small cut in one wire at a specific distance from the bottom, and if your doing a Slim-Jim you solder the two wires together at the top. That's it. Quick and simple. This thing rolls up into a small coil and can be easily transported and stored. When your out and about you hoist it up somewhere using a tree (fishing pole and fishing line work well) and you're on the air.

So what we have here is 3D printed pieces to make it look sexy. There are three portions as follows:

  1. A top piece that finishes off the top and has a eyelet for attaching a line and hoisting it.
  2. A mid piece to cover the area where the cable needs to be cut. This helps strengthen the weak area there and hides the cut.
  3. A bottom piece which holds a female BNC panel mount connector (Amazon is your friend here).

To assemble it you will also need some M3 wood or metal screws and a drill with a small (3.5mm) bit to drill through the middle of the twin lead cable for the screws.
